Coyne and Melvin Klingler. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. W. F. Finley, Dr. Rex Wilson, Dr. Robert Waters and Dr. George Carstens and L. G. Gillespie all of O'Neill. Lew Arthur Carter was born November 20, 1875 in Mills County, Iowa, the son of Elijah B. Carter and Josephine Bowell Carter. He was educated in Washington, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri, and graduated from medical college in Kansas City in the year 1903. He was united in marriage to Lola Wells on November 25, 1896 at Washington, Kansas, He practiced medicine in Mahaska, Kansas and Tyron, Nebraska until he came to O'Neill in 1917. He purchased the practice of Dr. Wilson and had his office in the Naylor building for the first five years, then he moved his location to the present site at the corner of 4th and Everett. Dr. Carter still kept up with the latest medical knowledge and was active in his practice until April 3rd of this year when he suffered a heart attack. After this he gave up his practice. He is survived by his wife, Lola; three daughter, Mrs. Eunice Grabo, Albuquerque, N. M.; Mrs. Arthur (Vera) Blum, Story, Wyo., and Mrs. Vance (Marjorie) Beghtol of Kearney, Nebr. Also four sisters, Mrs. Mary Jenkins of Canyon City, Colo.; Mrs. Mabel Lee of Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Pink Stitt of Benkleman, Nebr. And Mrs. Cox Rilla, Wymore, Nebr.; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren born a week before his death.
