STERNER TAKEN BY DEATH Dr. Lewis H. Sterner, who practiced medicine for more than a half century, died at 7:15 o'clock this morning at his residence, 230 York Street. Death followed an illness of two years. He was aged 84 years. A graduate of the Hahnemann Medical College, Philadelphia, Dr. Sterner began practice at Porters Sideling in 1889. He maintained his office there thirty years before moving to his late residence here, where he continued to practice until his ill health interfered. Dr. Sterner was born near Jefferson on March 29, 1864, a son of the late John and Sarah Hildebrand Sterner. He was thrice married, his first two wives having preceded him in death. Dr. John Sterner, a son by his first marriage to Annie Taylor, died four years ago. His second wife was the former Virgie Bowman. Surviving from this marriage is a daughter, Mrs. Mary Mummert, Harrisburg. His third marriage was to Estella Miller, who survives. Other survivors are: one son, Lewis M. Sterner, Springfield; one step-son, LeRoy Hinkle, Spring Grove; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Freeman Myers, Jefferson. Dr. Sterner was a member of Patmos Lodge, No. 348, F. and A.M.; Washington camp, No. 328, P.O.S. of A.; Minnewaukaru Tribe, No. 250, Improved Order of Red Men, and Hanover Lodge, No. 1406, Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a member of Lohr's Memorial EUB Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in Lohr's Memorial EUB Church. The Rev. J. B. Reed, Jr., pastor, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. George C. Daugherty. Interment will take place in the Jefferson Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from Monday noon until time of services. Friends may call at the Frederick Bucher Funeral Home Sunday evening.
