Newman was born in Cattaraugus County, New York, on the 4th day o f August, 1848, and departed this life on the 4th day of June, 1913. The family of which he was a member came to Jackson County, Iowa, when he was six years of age. Newman was born in Cattaraugus County, New York, on the 4th day o f August, 1848, and departed this life on the 4th day of June, 1913. The family of which he was a member came to Jackson County, Iowa, when he was six years of age. During the years of civil conflict in this country he went to the front, being enrolled in the 96th Illinois Infantry, from which he held an honorable discharge. On the 6th of May, 1877, he was married to Miss Alvira Doud, and the home thus established was blessed with four children, Clarence A., Dwight W., Mary A., and Flora L., all of whom live and occupy places of usefulness in the world. Dr. Newman practiced the profession of medicine for 37 years, and until failing health compelled him some months ago to lay aside all active duties. His death will call to remembrance uncounted services as physician and friend, which ever abound in so long a life of medical practice. Most of this time being spent in this immediate vicinity, his death will be regarded by many as a personal loss. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church last Friday afternoon, Rev. Turner preaching the sermon.
