Pat was born 26 Feb. 1927 at Sioux Falls, SD, to George Richard and Ruth (Bauch) Barnett. She graduated from St. Catherine College in St. Paul, MN, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. In addition to her association with UNC, Pat was a published playwright and acted in a number of Shakespearean and classic roles, including leading roles in Front Page, Agnes of God, and Life on the Mississippi. She was a member of American Assn. University Professors, Actors Equity Assn., and American Theatre Assn. She also toured most parts of the world to entertain U.S. troops abroad and was awarded silver medals by the U.S. Department of Defense for her tour in Japan and Korea. Pat, who never married, is survived by three brothers and two sisters. Her funeral was held March 4 in Chapel Hill, NC. A memorial service was held in her hometown of Sioux Falls, SD on March 13, 1999.
