O'Brien, 66, a physician who had offices on Essex street, died Saturday in Lahey Clinic, Burlington, after a long illness. Dr. O'Brien was born in Revere. O'Brien, 66, a physician who had offices on Essex street, died Saturday in Lahey Clinic, Burlington, after a long illness. Dr. O'Brien was born in Revere. He was graduated from Boston College in 1939, and from Tufts Medical School in 1943. He completed his internship in Salem Hospital and his residency in Boston City Hospital. He was the past president of the medical staff at the Mt. Pleasant Hospital for Alcoholism in Lynn, had been a consultant at Salem Hospital, a medical director for the Massachusetts State Detoxification Center in Danvers, and was the former director of the Villa Atlanta Hospital for Alcoholism in Magnolia. He was a member of the National Council on Alcoholism and a former vice president for the North Shore Council on Alcoholism. He held the title of diplomate to the National Board of Medical Examiners and had held membership in the Royal Academy of Surgeons. Dr. O'Brien was an Army major in the Pacific during World War II. He retired from practice last July. He leaves his wife, Doris J. (Corbett); a son, P. Scott O'Brien of Salem; three daughters, Alison and Marcia O'Brien of Salem and Leslie O'Brien of Plum Island, Newburyport; and a sister, Dorthea Sheehan of Marblehead. A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St James Church, Salem. Burial will be in Star of the Sea Cemetery, Marblehead. (Published March 8, 1982 in the Boston Globe)
