Description	:	Peggy Marshall, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Menorah Park in Syracuse on the morning of May 5, 2020. Peggy was born in Stanton, Nebraska to Edwin Marshall and Maud Matheson and maintained her Nebraska roots her entire life. She traveled to Nebraska three times a year to visit family and friends and cheered on Nebraska football as a loyal fan! Her ashes will be interred in the family plot in Stanton. Read More	Peggy Marshall, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Menorah Park in Syracuse on the morning of May 5, 2020. Peggy was born in Stanton, Nebraska to Edwin Marshall and Maud Matheson and maintained her Nebraska roots her entire life. She traveled to Nebraska three times a year to visit family and friends and cheered on Nebraska football as a loyal fan! Her ashes will be interred in the family plot in Stanton. Dr. Marshall received for B.A. from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska and her M.A. from the University of Michigan and PhD. In English from Indiana University. The focus of her dissertation was the work of Virginia Woolf. Her teaching career began in teaching 8th grade English in Flint, MI and went on to include faculty positions at Hanover College, IN and Valparaiso University, IN. In 1975 Peggy began a 25-year tenure teaching English at Fayetteville-Manlius HS. Within a few short years, Dr. Marshall distinguished herself as a beloved teacher, valued mentor and colleague and strong advocate for teacher professionalism. She became chair of the English department, advisor to National Honor Society and president of the teachers' association, earning the respect and admiration of fellow teachers, students, their parents, school administrators and board members. Beyond F-M, Dr. Marshall served in a leadership role on the CNY English Council, on the cabinet of Syracuse University Project Advance and as an adjunct instructor in education at LeMoyne College. Peggy loved and lived to travel. She co-chaperoned several student tours to Ireland, Russia, China, India, Japan and SE Asia. Since retirement she has joined an annual theater tour to London in January and embarked on many Road Scholar programs. She would delight in quick trips to NYC, Cooperstown or Buffalo! Peggy would accompany a friend on a trip to just about anywhere. Peggy reveled in the fellowship of friends. She maintained relationships in many circles of friends- her long-lived book club, her daily breakfast group and her monthly birthday group. She loved gathering friends around her dining table for conversation, conviviality and beautifully served dishes; Peggy was an ambitious cook and baker, ably executing recipes from Julia Child, Alice Waters and James Beard in her cramped kitchen to the marvel of her guests. Peggy was also a comfortable and appreciative guest at the homes of her friends; she loved being entertained for tea, a cocktail, wedding or wake. In addition to her many friends in Syracuse and beyond, Peggy is survived by a special nephew, Terry Bauer, of Sidney NE and niece, Diane (Sue) Carter of Bamberg SC and her family. A private memorial celebration will held in the coming months.
