Description	:	Son of Daniel & Teresa Sautter. Married to Rosemary E. Graham on 8-4-1956. He earned his bachelor of science and medicine degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He received his medical doctorate from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He served his internship at Highland Alameda County in Oakland, Calif. He received training in general surgery, served as instructor of general surgery and served his residency in thoracic surgery at the State University of Iowa at Iowa City. Dr. Sautter joined the Marshfield Clinic's thoracic and cardiovascular surgery department in 1961. He started the open-heart surgery program in Marshfield. He designed and patented a device known as the RDS oxygenator, which made possible emergency cardiopulmonary bypass for open-heart surgery and pulmonary embolectomy. Dr. Sautter was a founding member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. He wrote or co-wrote more than 150 scientific articles published in peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals and wrote and published four chapters in medical books. The University of Wisconsin Medical School appointed Dr. Sautter clinical assistant professor in the surgery department. He served as assistant dean for clinical affairs from 1984 to 1986.
