Description	:	MADISON - Funeral services for Dr. Richard Thue, 81, a longtime optometrist at Madison who died Oct. 16 in a Clark nursing home, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Trinity Lutheran Church at Lake Norden. Burial will be in the Garfield Lutheran Cemetery at Bryant. Visitation will be in the Ellsworth Funeral Home at Madison today (Monday) and in the church Tuesday one hour preceding the services. All friends and relatives are invited to a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the funeral home. Dr. Thue was born Dec. 23, 1909, at Lake Norden to Andrew and Petrine (Norgaard) Thue. He was baptized and confirmed in the Garfield Lutheran Church. He graduated from Bryant High School and S.D. State College at Brookings. He served as a student instructor in chemistry at SDSC and in his senior year served as Blue Key Historian, Scabbard & Blade Captain, Benzino Ring secretary and was a member of the Officer's Mess and Senior Council. He was a lieutenant colonel in the ROTC. After college, he taught science at Madison High School for 10 years before entering Southern College of Optometry at Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Sigma and graduated as president and valedictorian of his class. He became licensed in South Dakota and returned to Madison where he continued his optometry [practice until his retirement. Dr. Thue was a member of the Madison Chamber of Commerce, Madison Golf and Country Club and Elks Club. He served as a president of the S.D. Semi-Pro Baseball League and was an organizer of the Madison Athletic Club and DSC Booster Club.The "Thue-Diamonds" at Flynn Field and the "Thue-Shelter" were named in his honor. Dr. Thue received the Distinguished Citizens Award from Dakota State College and was presented with the "Key to the City of Madison" in 1989. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. (Kyle) Anne Ballard of Alderson, W. Va., Mrs. (George) Alida Schanck of Clark and Mrs. Ruth Wacker of Dearborn, Mich.
