Description	:	Dr. Robert Calvin Hubbard Jr., 86, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Morningside Assisted Living in Seneca, where he had been a resident for the last five years. Dr. Hubbard, the son of the late Robert Calvin Sr. and Mary Gantt Hubbard, was born on Nov. 4, 1918, in Liberty, S.C. He was a graduate of Seneca High School and Clemson A&M College, and began his career in 1940 as an agriculture teacher in St. George, S.C. Read More	Dr. Robert Calvin Hubbard Jr., 86, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Morningside Assisted Living in Seneca, where he had been a resident for the last five years. Dr. Hubbard, the son of the late Robert Calvin Sr. and Mary Gantt Hubbard, was born on Nov. 4, 1918, in Liberty, S.C. He was a graduate of Seneca High School and Clemson A&M College, and began his career in 1940 as an agriculture teacher in St. George, S.C. He joined the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service in 1942, and enjoyed a 36-year career as assistant county agent in Florence (1942-1944), county agent in Bamberg (1944-1961), and assistant extension editor with the Agricultural Information Service at Clemson University (1961-1964). Then he was named editor and department head (1964-1972) and coordinator for all Cooperative Extension training programs. During his career, he earned a master's degree from Clemson University and doctorate of education from North Carolina State University. He helped establish the Bamberg County Community College, serving as its first dean. In 1958, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents. In 1960, he won second place for Outstanding Professional Development in NACAA Crop Pest Control Awards Program. Following his Clemson University retirement, he served as a consultant for Dow Chemical Corporation. Known to his family and friends as "Bob," "Jack" or "Hub," Dr. Hubbard was known best for the love of his family and his Clemson Tigers. He was active in the Clemson University community and the Clemson First Baptist Church. He was an ordained deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was Past Master of the Ornan Lodge, AFM, in Bamberg, S.C. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Jean Maxwell Hubbard. Surviving are a son, Robbie (Rob) Hubbard, and his wife, Claudia, of Seneca, S.C.; daughters, Susan H. Johnson of Lilburn, Ga., and Jeannie H. Alley and her husband, Steve, of Clemson, S.C.; a sister, Vivian Hubbard Fulmer of Clinton, S.C.; and his seven grandchildren, Bob Hubbard and his wife, Susie, Bill Hubbard, Betsy Hubbard, Susannah Johnson, Emily Johnson, Christopher Alley and his wife, Carie, and Katy Alley. Other family members include the loving staff and residents of Morningside Assisted Living. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clemson First Baptist Church Building Fund, 397 College Ave., Clemson, SC 29631, or to Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, SC 29672.
