Description	:	Ruth Kauffman Johnson, known to many as Dr. Ruth, died Monday, October 2, 2006 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born on May 21, 1923, the daughter of Mildred Price and David Loan Kauffman. Ruth married William Glenn Johnson on July 9, 1950 and was preceded in death by him in November 2001. Read More	Ruth Kauffman Johnson, known to many as Dr. Ruth, died Monday, October 2, 2006 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born on May 21, 1923, the daughter of Mildred Price and David Loan Kauffman. Ruth married William Glenn Johnson on July 9, 1950 and was preceded in death by him in November 2001. A lifelong resident of Morgan County, she attended Prairie Valley School with her siblings, Wanda Elizabeth, David, Evelyn Sue, Dorothy, Mildred and William. She graduated from Versailles High School in 1941. She attended University of Utah-Logan and then went on to University of Missouri-Columbia Medical School, getting her medical degree from Washington University in 1948. She completed her internship at St. Luke's in St. Louis returning to Versailles to join Dr. A.J. Gunn and Dr. Greg Gunn's medical practice. She was joined by Dr. Jack Gunn, Dr. Ray Lyle and later by Dr. Robert Hall, practicing at the Gunn Clinic in Versailles for over 50 years. During that time, she delivered many babies from Morgan, Miller, and Camden Counties and made house calls at all hours and in all weather. Ruth was a source of inspiration to her children and their families; Dr. Catherine Maxwell, husband John and children Greg, Charles and Andrew Maxwell of Akron, Ohio; Melissa Ann Johnson, deceased; Mary Liebler, husband Lenny, and children Erin, Emily and Joe Caine, and Sam Liebler, of Eldon, MO; Robert Johnson, wife Meg and children Kelly and David Johnson, of Merritt Island, FL; and Carolyn Dixon, husband Jeremy, and children Tori Cardieri, Trevor and Annerly Dixon of St. Petersburg, FL. She was beloved by many nieces, nephews and their families. Surviving siblings are Evelyn Sue Smith of Pueblo, CO, Mildred Kackley of Kansas City, MO, Dorothy Hughes of California, MO, and William F. Kauffman of St. Louis, MO. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Johnson in 2001, daughter Melissa Ann Johnson in 1969, brother David in 1942, and sister Wanda Elizabeth in 2006. A dedicated life-time member of the Versailles United Methodist Church, she was also involved in many other groups and organizations. She served on the Board of Governors for the University of Missouri Medical School, served as Coroner of Morgan County for several years, Board of Directors for the Morgan County Health Center and many others. Ruth Kauffman Johnson touched the lives of countless individuals and families throughout her life and career. She will be sadly missed by all who experienced her compassion and generosity. A celebration of life funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 6, at the Versailles United Methodist Church, with Pastor Barry Fielder officiating. Interment will be in the Versailles Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. The family appreciates your thoughtfulness through donations in lieu of flowers to the American Diabetes Association, Versailles United Methodist Church or the Jack Gunn Free Clinic through the Morgan County Health Center.
