Description	:	Dr. Samuel Preston Fleming, 90, of Spartanburg, died June 21, 2008, at Summit Hills Retirement Center. Born November 21, 1917, at Lanford Station, SC, he was the son of the late James M. and Alma Lanford Fleming and the husband of the late Florence Anderson Fleming. A 1937 graduate of Laurens High School, he received a BS degree in Biology from Furman University in 1941 where he was co-captain of the football team his senior year. Read More	Dr. Samuel Preston Fleming, 90, of Spartanburg, died June 21, 2008, at Summit Hills Retirement Center. Born November 21, 1917, at Lanford Station, SC, he was the son of the late James M. and Alma Lanford Fleming and the husband of the late Florence Anderson Fleming. A 1937 graduate of Laurens High School, he received a BS degree in Biology from Furman University in 1941 where he was co-captain of the football team his senior year. He served in the US Marine Corps Reserves and then joined the US Army Air Corps in 1942, serving as a combat navigator in the European Theatre during World War II. He entered the Medical University of South Carolina in 1946 and received an M.D. degree in 1950. Dr. Fleming retired from the medical profession in 1994 after 40 years of service. Survivors include two daughters, Catherine F. Jordan and husband Jerry of Austin, Texas, and Dorothy F. Green and husband Rick of Winter Park, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Fleming Terrell of Austin, Texas, and Charlotte Sheets and husband, Mark of Waco, Texas. Memorials may be made to Furman University Athletic Department Football Program, 3300 Poinsett Highway, Greenville, SC 29609; or to the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, 175 Bourne Avenue, Pooler, GA 31322.
