| Description | : | Dr. Thomas Coit was the only son of Thomas Coit 1702-1724 and Mary "Molly" Prentis Coit Gray 1702-1764. His father died before his birth and he was raised by his stepfather, Dr. Ebenezar Gray. He became a prominent physician in New London, an early proponent of the new smallpox vaccine, an organizer of the Connecticut Medical Association, and a valued citizen of the community. At the time of the yellow fever epidemic, Dr. Coit tended his patients until he himself contracted the disease, which he survived.
