Wise, "Dear Sir Having received notice through Dr. Clendenin [Dr. Alexander Clendinen] of my appointment by you of Resident Physician of the Hospital at Lewisburg - I cannot assent to let my young friend Dr. Atkinsen [probably, Dr. Archibald Atkinson, Jr.] leave the position without expressing the sentiments of respect & confidence entertained for him by myself as well as the citizens of our village. I can endorse his skill & efficiency as a physician as well as his attention & elevated interest in the welfare of the soldiers entrusted to his care. I shall endeavor to do my utmost to relieve our soldiers & make them comfortable & happy. Hospital, Pearisburg, VA - "situated in Giles Co., Va., 21 miles west of Dublin Depot, V. & T. R.R. [Virginia and Tennessee Railroad" 07/00/1863 - Surgeon, Gen. Hospital, Pearisburg, Giles Co., VA ("serving with troops, Army of Southwest Virginia" 07/25/1863 - As Surgeon of Hospital, Pearisburg, Giles Co., VA, Surgeon Creigh wrote to Medical Director W. A. Carrington, Richmond, VA, "important business pertaining to two young men in our army with which I am connected as their guardians as well as the condition of a member of my family constrain me very reluctantly for the first time to ask for leave of absence from the fourth of August for some twelve or fifteen days. Very Respectfully Your obt servt Thos Creigh" 08/06/1863 - "Leave of absence for twelve days is granted Surgeon Thomas Creight [sic], Provisional Army Confederate States." [S.O. 186/8] 12/23/1863 - Surgeon-in-charge, Hospital, Pearisburg, VA 02/03/1864 - Surgeon-in-charge, Gen. Hospital, Pearisburg, VA 06/11/1864 - His brother, David S. Creigh, was hanged by Federal troops in Brownsburg, Rockbridge Co., VA, for killing a Federal soldier 'in defense of his rights and in performance of his duties as a Husband and Father". Hospital, Pearisburg, VA (Department of East Tennessee and South Western Virginia) 01/09/1865 - Surgeon, Gen. Hospital, Pearisburg, Giles Co., VA 01/26/1865 - Absent without leave since 01/21/1865 - Surgeon, Gen. Hospital, Dublin Depot, VA [date(s) unknown] 09/29/1870 - Practiced medicine, Fort Spring Township, Greenbrier Co., WV (lived with his wife, Sarah F.) 1874 - Practiced medicine, Lewisburg, Greenbrier Co., WV 07/01/1876 - Presented dedication remarks for the new Lewisburg Female Institute in Lewisburg, WV, for which he had "prepared his address to be delivered on the grounds at the Institute on the laying of the Corner-stone, but being requested to address the audience in the [Presbyterian] church was forced to 'change his base,' which he did with much grace and ease. Every one enjoyed Dr. Creigh's effort, much mirth being occasioned in the outset by his attempt at displeasure at having to change the tenor of his remarks and his threat to tell the 'Great Masonic Secret' through revenge." 08/14/1877 - Died, Greenbrier Co., WV Leslie Acord and Bob Krick provided input to this biography.
