Dr. Jefferis came to Council Bluffs with his brother in labored there with zeal. He returned to Wilmington in April 1857 and married Anna M Cook, returning immediately with his wife to this city. Ten children were born of the marriage, and all but Stephen lived to adulthood. Their children were: Parthenia, who became Mrs. Findley Burke; Thomas Cook ; Ella, Mrs. Thomas Butler of Omaha; Vada, Mrs. Porter; James E.; William A.; Charles H.; and Hannah B., Mrs, George Mueller of Wisconsin. Dr. Thomas Jefferis began the practice of homeopathy in 1868. He had long made it a study and he proved himself competent in his profession. He had remarkable success with certain diseases and among them was diphtheria, which he cured by a treatment of his own. After suffering a stroke while visiting family in Omaha, he became paralyzed and died a week later of heart failure.
