Description	:	Dr. Vincent H. "Bopp" Carstensen, 93, of Waverly, died Monday, Dec. 1, at Waverly Health Center of natural causes. He was born Dec. 18, 1914, in Waverly, son of William George and Caroline Clausing Carstensen. On July 3, 1941, he married Lenore Jay at the old Methodist Church in Waverly. She died June 1, 2002. He graduated from Waverly High School in 1932, attended Wartburg College for a year, Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls for two years, and the University of Iowa College of Medicine, graduating in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a flight... Read More	Dr. Vincent H. "Bopp" Carstensen, 93, of Waverly, died Monday, Dec. 1, at Waverly Health Center of natural causes. He was born Dec. 18, 1914, in Waverly, son of William George and Caroline Clausing Carstensen. On July 3, 1941, he married Lenore Jay at the old Methodist Church in Waverly. She died June 1, 2002. He graduated from Waverly High School in 1932, attended Wartburg College for a year, Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls for two years, and the University of Iowa College of Medicine, graduating in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a flight surgeon with the 99th Bomb Wing squad. He later was transferred to Texas and overseas, serving at other military installations through 1945. The couple returned to Waverly in 1947 where he opened his medical practice. He practiced medicine until his retirement. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Waterloo and a former member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Waverly. Survived by: a son, the Rev. James of Waterloo; a daughter, Gretchen (Jim) Smelcer of Raymond, Miss.; a grandson he raised, Eric (Amie) Carstensen of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and a sister, Arlene B. Carstensen of Sacramento, Calif. Preceded in death by: two sisters, Lucinda Carstensen in infancy and Lucille Paup; and a brother, Dr. Clarence F. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with burial in Harlington Cemetery, both in Waverly. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, is assisting the family. Memorials: may be directed to the University of Iowa College of Medicine or the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Waterloo.
