Zimmerman died on Sunday afternoon at 4:30, May 21st, at the home of his father in Grant township. The funeral will be held tomorrow, at 3:30, and the burial will take place at the Fairview cemetery. Deceased was born in Weld county, Colorado, in 1877, therefore was only 28 years of age at the time of his death. His father, A.J. Zimmerman, moved to this county in 1878, so the young man practically spent the whole of his life in Cloud county. He received his common school education in the district school near his father's farm. The following extract is taken from Mrs. Hollibaugh's history of Cloud county, which tells his life story up to that time better than we can tell it. "His boyhood days were not all sunshine, but he worked his way through the common branches, and his determination to gain a profession rendered the undertaking possible. Not at the instigation of his family or friends, did he choose the career of M.D., but from youth adopted medicine as his choice and never wavered from his purpose. Prior to studying medicine, however, he entered upon a course of pharmacy at home, more as a means of gaining the desired end, than from a taste for that calling. At the age of seventeen years he secured a position as drug clerk and continued in that capacity between three and four years. In the meantime he read medicine with Dr. C.I. Tidd, of Geneva, Iowa, and later with Dr. G.L. Goss, of Sherfield, Iowa, gaining a credit of one year in the medical college of St. Joseph, Missouri. After two years in that institution, his first experience in professional work was at Longford, Kansas, in the autumn of 1900, under a preceptor. Desiring more complete medical knowledge he subsequently entered the Nashville Medical College, graduated from there in the spring of 1901 and returned to Longford. In December of the same year he located in Concordia, where he has since been established. January 16, 1902, he received the appointment of county physician and held that office one year in connection with his private practice, which is steadily increasing. Cramping restrictions incident to financial situations were experienced in Dr. Zimmerman's struggle to gain a profession and he has encountered many obstacles along his career, requiring much energy and courage to tide over these years of anxiety. When Dr. Zimmerman came there it looked like it would be a hard proposition for him to get a foothold in his profession, but as soon as he had the opportunity to manifest his ability he "made good" and had he not fallen a victim himself of consumption, no doubt he would have made a mark for himself in the profession he had chosen. He was affable in manner, genial to his associates and cheerful even in the face of the dark shadow that hovered over him. Dr. Zimmerman's death was not unexepected, neither by his relatives nor his friends. None knew better than he that his fight for life with that dread disease, tuberculosis, would ere long prove a victory for Death. On Sept. 6, 1904, Dr. Zimmerman and Miss Ermina Martin were married, at the home of his parents, the Baron's House, and on that same morning the young couple started for Roswell, New Mexico, where it was hoped the climate would prove beneficial to his health, but the disease had fastened itselt on him too well to be easily shaken off. He steadily grew worse, and they returned to Concordia this spring, and for the past month he has lived on his father's farm, where his boyhood days were spent, waiting for the dread summons to call him to his eternal home. At one time he was a member of the Jamestown Odd Fellows lodge, but had given up his membership while at college.
