Hansell, 88, father of Miss Hortense Hansell of this city, funeral rites for whom were held Thursday afternoon at 2 p. m. at the Morfoot funeral home. The words of comfort and brief history of the life deceased were given by Dr. J. O. Simon of Memorial Lutheran church. The many beautiful flowers testified to the high regard in which Dr. Hansell and his family have stood in the communities in which they have lived. Mrs. J. C. Hathaway was at the organ and played several appropriate numbers at the beginning and close of the service. Interment was in the Nevada cemetery by the side of the wife who passed away Feb. , 1926. The casket bearers were H. W. Dana, F. M. Boardman, Dr. F. W. Cowgill, Dr. George Ostrem, John Allen and Robert A. Dana. Among those from out of town in attendance at the service were Dr. and Mrs. W. Whitfield Hansell, C. H. Wunderlin and Marion Young of Des Mones; Mrs. W. O. Ambrose of Wheaton, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. John W. Neasham of Ottumwa, John Jackson of Buckeye, cousin of the deceased, and his daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. John Lunde of Chicago. The latter were here also to attend the funeral of the late Henry E. Armstrong. Dr. Wm. Hansell, 88, of Ottumwa, passed away Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock a the Jordan Nursing Home in Des Moines. Dr. Hansell, graduate of Rush Medical college in Chicago, has been a prominent Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat specialist in Ottumwa since 1892. He retired from active practice in November, 1941. Because of failing health he had W. Whitfield Hansell in Des Moines seven or eight weeks ago. He was taken to the Nursing Home for special care last week. Dr. Hansell, born Feb. 17, 1855, is a native of Durham, England. He was one of eight children born to John and Ann Whitfield Hansell with whom he came to this country in 1868. The family first settled near Galena, Ill. Coming to Nevada in 1871, at the age of 16, he attended the local schools and later purchased a jewelry store in Nevada. He had at that time as watch-maker, his newphew, John W. Neasham, now of Ottumwa. Mr. Neasham also assisted his uncle in the conduct of the foundry business which he owned in Nevada. He was married on Nov. 3, 1886 to Miss Margaret Ringheim, sister of Miss Emily Ringheim and of the late A. M. Ringheim, Mrs. Bessie Livingston and Miss Hannah Ringheim of Nevada. He left from here for Rush Medical college and following his graduation located in 1892 for the practice of his profession in Ottumwa where the wife passed away 17 years ago. The deceased is survived by a son, Dr. W. Whitfield Hansell of Des Moines and a daughter, Miss Hortense Hansell of Nevada. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Catherine Carley of Chadron, Neb.
