Description	:	Dr. William H. Schlegel D.D.S., 88, of Drakesville, died Nov. 20, 2011, at his home. He was born November 8, 1923 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Vance and Mildred Ferguson Schiegel. He married Shirley Jean Underkofler. He later married Lillian M. Dilliner January 3, 1974 in Memphis, Missouri. Lillian preceded him in death February 8, 2006. William served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII as a fighter pilot in the 341st Fighter Squadron where he earned a Distinguished Flying Cross. He was born November 8, 1923 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Vance and Mildred Ferguson Schiegel. He married Shirley Jean Underkofler. He later married Lillian M. Dilliner January 3, 1974 in Memphis, Missouri. Lillian preceded him in death February 8, 2006. William served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII as a fighter pilot in the 341st Fighter Squadron where he earned a Distinguished Flying Cross. After serving in the military he went on to become a Dentist and had a practice in Bloomfield. He was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church, the Bloomfield Country Club, and Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield. He was also instrumental in the development of the Bloomfield Airport. He is sruvived by a daughter, Dona(Arvid)Goettsche of Drakesville, Iowa: a son, Cree(Cindy)Schiegel of Agency, Iowa; two step-sons, Rudy Willingham and Thomas Willingham, both of Osage Beach, Missouri; a step-daughter, Linda Taylor of Eldon, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dr. Ben Schlegel of Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and wives. Funeral services will be at 10 am Wednesday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield; with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial with graveside military rites performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9 am today with the family present from 5-6:30 pm to greet friends at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion.
