W. and Rachel Thomas, was born July 24, 1869, at Weeping Water, Nebraska, and died at Edgar, Nebraska, February 6, 1936, at the age of 66 years, 6 months and 12 days. On December 22, 1894, he was united in marriage to Ola A. Epperson at Belleville, Kansas. To this union two children were born, a son La Rue, who died in infancy and Leah Rebecca, now Mrs. W. E. Stewart. His early education, elementary and high school, was completed at Weeping Water. Afterwards he entered the college at York, Nebraska. This college was later moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, and is now known as the Nebraska Wesleyan. He took his medical course at Kansas City, Missouri and graduated in 1896. Dr Thomas practiced medicine first at Republic City, Kansas, then at Pickrell, Nebraska. In 1911 he was appointed superintendent of the State Institution at Beatrice, Nebraska, and served in that capacity for two years. In 1913 he went to Chicago where he took a post graduate course, then he located for a short time at Bern, Kansas. From there he moved to Edgar, Nebraska, where he resided for twenty-two years and practiced medicine until the last few days. Forty years of his life was spent in the practice of his profession. In childhood he was christened in the Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Edgar, Nebraska. In the passing of Dr Thomas the community has suffered the loss of a public minded citizen one who had a host of friends many of whom had been helped by his medical advice. No one who needed his help was denied his sympathetic service. For many years he was a reader of the Kansas City Star and the first part of his daily reading would be the Scripture verse which was published in that paper. He leaves to mourn his departure, his widow, one daughter and her husband, Mr. W. E. Stewart, four grandchildren, Mary Lou, Billy Lee, Jack Roderick and Donald Thomas Stewart; one brother, Dr M. U. Thomas and one sister, Mrs. Winifred McGrady, both of Weeping Water, Nebr. Two sisters have preceded him in death, Mrs. Ola Wehrman of Nelson, Nebraska and Mrs. Irene Brust of Denver, Colorado. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the home. Rev T. S. Hughes had charge of the services after which the Masonic ritual was read by Arthur Scism. Music was furnished by Miss Celia Merrill and Mrs. E. F. Hart. accompanied by Mrs. W. L. Hull. The pallbearers were Dr J. A. Stewart, Glenn Sommerville, Dr W. L. Hull, Bruce Merrill, Clark Kinnison and E. W.Clack. Those acting as honorary pallbearers were Dr C. W. Keith, Dr E. A. Good, Dr F. M. Harbaugh, all of Edgar, Dr J. O. Latta of Clay Center and Dr C.
