Read More	Georgetown Times May 30 1930 Death Comes to Beloved Doctor Tuesday May 27 Dr William M Gaillard Passes away in McLeod's Infirmary Florence Long Active Career Dr William Minott Gaillard beloved physician of Georgetown passed away in McLeod's Infirmary Florence at three o'clock Tuesday afternoon May 27th. Dr Gaillard was taken seriously ill in January of this year and it was thought at one time that he had recovered from the first attack. It was found however that he was suffering from an incurable form of angina, and during the last few months his decline had been rapid. The doctor was born March 19 1872 on Eutaw Plantation Upper St John's Berkeley. He was the son of Espell and Margaret Gaillard and the grandson of Peter Charles Gaillard Charleston's mayor during the period immediately following the War Between the States. Dr Gaillard received education in Charleston staying at the home of his grandfather and attending grammar school the Charleston High School and lastly the Medical College from which institution he was graduated in the spring of 1899. After graduation he served one year as intern in Roper Hospital and then spent three months in Timmonsville. In 1900 Dr Gaillard moved to the Plantersville section and in 1905 took up his residence in Georgetown where he had been practicing his profession continuously within nine months of his death. Medical Record Dr Gaillard was a member of the Georgetown County Medical Association and the American Medical Association and served as the chairman of the Georgetown Board of Health for a number of years. During the World War he was named chairman of the local Exemption Board and received a commission of Captain in the Medical Corp before cessation of hostilities but was never called to active service. After the death of Dr WE Sparkman Dr Gaillard was appointed Acting Assistant of Surgeon of the US Public Health Service Relief Station in this city, and held this position until his death. He was one of the surgeons of the Atlantic Coast Lumber Corporation and served in this capacity for twenty five years. Dr Gaillard was a prominent Mason being Worshipful Master of the Winyah Lodge No 40 for several years and always took an active part in the affairs of the order. Church Activities He was a faithful member of the Church of Prince George Winyah and served as Senior Warden during his last years. Always interested in every phase of church work, he was the moving spirit in the erection of the Parish House of Prince George. The doctor was one of Georgetown's most popular citizens beloved by every man, woman and child with whom he came in contact, and his death is mourned by a wide circle of warm friends in Georgetown and other sections of the state. He is survived by his widow formerly Miss Annie Dunn; his mother Mrs Margaret C Gaillard; two brothers Palmer Gaillard of Charleston and Peter C Gaillard of Eutawville and one sister Miss Elizabeth A Gaillard of Georgetown. The funeral services were held yesterday morning at 11 o'clock in the Church of Prince George with interment following in the church yard the Rev HD Bull rector officiating assisted by the Rev R Bryce Herbert pastor of Duncan Memorial Methodist Church. The services were largely attended by hundreds of Georgetonians and friends from other parts of the state. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. The pall bearers were HL Wright, DD Rosa, FW Ford Jr, RM Cain, WH Thomas, Phil Lachicotte, WC Bynum, JW Wingate.
