Description	:	Dr. William Paul Fletcher, 91, died Sept. 7, 2018, and was born Nov. 15, 1926, in Harrisonburg, Va., to Samuel P. Fletcher Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Patterson. He graduated from Harrisonburg High school in 1945 and from Randolph Macon College in 1949 and was married the same week to Margaret (Bunny) Patterson McLean. Read More	Dr. William Paul Fletcher, 91, died Sept. 7, 2018, and was born Nov. 15, 1926, in Harrisonburg, Va., to Samuel P. Fletcher Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Patterson. He graduated from Harrisonburg High school in 1945 and from Randolph Macon College in 1949 and was married the same week to Margaret (Bunny) Patterson McLean. He then attended the Medical College of Virginia. Following a general internship, he entered the U.S. Navy proudly serving as the ship’s doctor aboard the USS Pocono, flagship of the Atlantic fleet. He resigned the commission as lieutenant senior grade to begin family practice in Monterey, Va.; later moving his practice to Covington, Va. There he was actively involved in a busy practice, the First Presbyterian Church and served as chairman on the City School Board. In 1969, the family moved to Stone House Farm on Mill Creek in Rockingham County, where they worked to restore a 200-year-old farm. The stone house and barn were lovingly repaired as were the fields and fences and an Angus herd was developed and nurtured. His primary interests were his medical practice and the restoration of the historic farm. Other avid interests were horseback riding, gardening, and singing in the church choir. He remained in medical practice until 1992 and had given much time and energy to the job of medical examiner as well. House calls were not uncommon for him and he developed many meaningful friendships in this practice. He was preceded in death by his wife, who had enjoyed and encouraged the same interest for 42 years. He united in marriage with Nancy Rhodes Callender in December of 1991 and they shared many wonderful years. They greatly enjoyed the travels in a motor home across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Florida forming many long-lasting friendships along the way. Nancy has lovingly cared for him though recent years of very difficult health challenges; the task could not have been more beautifully. She survives and lives at Sunnyside Retirement Community. He is also survived by all eight of their children, 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Services will be held Sept. 14, 2018, at 10 a.m. at the Meredith Chapel Sunnyside and Sept. 15, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church on Court Square, Harrisonburg, Va.
