D T Kinard Hurt During Fire in Ninety-Six HIT BY FALLING WALL Funeral Today for Former Legislator and Prominent Educator of State Greenwood, Feb 25 - The funeral of Drayton Tucker Kinard, who died here at 10 o'clock this morning of injuries received in a fire at Ninety Six Wednesday night, will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at Ninety Six. Mr Kinard suffered a fracture of his left thigh, right pelvis and serious internal injuries when a portion of a wall fell on him while he was assisting to fight the fire that destroyed three stores. Mr Kinard was one of the most prominent educators of the state, having been an officer of the State Teachers' association at one time. At the time of his death he was president of the Cambridge bank of Ninety Six. Following his graduation from Wofford College in the class of '98 with the A B and M A degrees, Mr Kinard taught school at Latta, Lykesland, Taylor school in Columbia, Clemson college and Dillon, where he was superintendent of the city schools. While at Dillon, he made a statewide reputation for himself by his progressive methods. A few years ago he moved to Laurens, where he farmed. He represented Laurens county in the legislature one term. About a year after the death of his father, the late Henry J Kinard of Ninety Six, he moved back there to look after his farm and estate. In addition to being a graduate of Wofford college, Mr Kinard had obtained the M A degree from the University of South Carolina and had attended the University of Chicago, Columbia University, Stout University and the University of Virginia. He was a Royal Arch and Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias. Mr Kinard was 44 years of age, having been born at Ninety Six on November 30, 1877. Mr Kinard is survived by his wife, who was Miss Janie Dew of Latta; his mother, Mrs Lillie M Kinard of Ninety Six, and four sons, F Marion Kinard, now a student at Wofford college; Hubert Kinard, Drayton Kinard and Joe Kinard of Ninety Six. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs L S Sanders of Ninety Six, Mrs A L Johnson of Liberty and Mrs J P Phillips of Greenwood.
