He died on March 20, 2009, in Lewistown, Mont., following a long illness. He suffers no more. Dewey married Alice "Vernie" Gossett on March 24, 1956, giving him five children. Dewey grew up in Richey, leaving school in the eighth grade, thus starting his life of a wage earner. His first passion was riding his Harley, even in sub-zero temperatures on the streets of Billings. Driving his truck was a close second. Dewey was a member of the Vicelords and Themadones motorcycle clubs. Surviving family members include his two daughters, Melody (Sharold) Buerkle of Belgrade and Billie (Willie) Winn of Dickinson; his son, Harold of Billings; Vernie, also of Billings; three sisters, Ruth (Dale) Rohr of Roosevelt, Utah, Diane (Fred) Uecker of Wapato, Wash., and Rita (Norman) Banta of Simms; his brother, Jerry (Ruth) Eyre of Billings; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dewey and Vernie also have 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Preceding Dewey in death are his parents; a sister, Joan; two daughters, Myrna and Valerie; a grandson, Michael; and two great-granddaughters, Jana and Layla. A memorial service will be held at Smith's Downtown Chapel on Tuesday, March 24, at 10 a.m. Interment of urn to follow at Pleasantview Cemetery in Ballantine, MT. Smith's Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
