Description	:	Duane H. Wilcox, 79, of Platte, SD, formerly of Lead, SD passed away Friday, October 7, 2011 at the Platte Care Center. Duane Herbert Wilcox was born on December 11, 1931 to Joseph A. and Ellen M. (Hansen) Wilcox in South Sioux City, NE. The family lived in the Homer and Winnebago, NE areas before moving to rural Platte, SD when he was a young age. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army... Read More	Duane H. Wilcox, 79, of Platte, SD, formerly of Lead, SD passed away Friday, October 7, 2011 at the Platte Care Center. Duane Herbert Wilcox was born on December 11, 1931 to Joseph A. and Ellen M. (Hansen) Wilcox in South Sioux City, NE. The family lived in the Homer and Winnebago, NE areas before moving to rural Platte, SD when he was a young age. He was confirmed at Bloomington Lutheran Church and attended Darlington Rural Schools through the 8th grade, graduating from Platte High School in 1949. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army in 1952 with the 7th Infantry Division during the Korean War. After his service, he returned home to work on the farm. On December 27, 1960 he was united in marriage to Clarice Ludens at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Platte. To this union were born two children; Steve and Collette. The couple moved to Lead, SD in 1964 where they made their home. Duane was employed as a miner for the Homestake Gold Mine for 22 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Black Hills VFW Post #5969 in Deadwood, SD and the Lead Homestake American Legion Post #31. Because of declining health, he became a resident of the Platte Care Center on July 7, 2011. Grateful for having shared in Duane's life: his son, Steve (Judi) Wilcox of Phoenix, AZ; 5 grandchildren: Christopher and Stacey Wilcox, Seth and Dalton Nold and Chad (Kennedy) Lasrich; a sister, Marie (Gale) Erickson of Gayville, SD; 2 brothers: Clyde (Sandy) Wilcox of Eagan, MN and Roy (Linda) Wilcox of Yankton, SD; a step-brother, Verne Hull of Yankton, SD; 2 brothers-in-law: Alvin (Donna) Ludens of Watertown, SD and Jim (Eileen) Ludens of Geddes, SD; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. Duane was preceded in death by: his wife of 50 years, Clarice Wilcox (Jan. 2, 2011); his daughter, Collette Kennedy; his parents, Joseph and Ellen Wilcox; his step-mother, Oma Hull Wilcox and his twin brother, Wayne Wilcox. Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Platte. A Committal Service will follow at the Platte City Cemetery with military honors by Campbell-Timmerman American Legion Post #115 of Platte. Visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 11, 2011 with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service.
