Duane Marlyn DeVries born March 16, 1936 to John and Meta (Schmidt) DeVries. He graduated from Worthing High School in 1954, and graduated from a two-year course in auto mechanics from Southern State in Springfield, SD. He moved to Sisseton, SD and worked for Bennet Chevrolet, then moved to Minneapolis and worked in the Minneapolis Moline foundry. On June 1, 1957, Duane married Lois Roth at Saron Lutheran Church near Sisseton, SD. They began their married life in Denver, Colorado where Duane worked at Gates Rubber. In 1958, they moved to Sisseton where their children, Carla and Marlyn, were born. Duane worked at Cenex and later Hyman Transportation. In 1961, Duane and Lois moved back to Duane's family farm, where son Glenn was born. Duane milked cows, raised hogs and chickens, and farmed. Later he sold the milk cows and started a Black Angus cow/calf operation along with farming and doing custom work. After auctioning off his farming equipment, he rented the farm land and continued to farm as a hired hand for 20 years following retirement. Duane and Lois enjoyed spending winters at their home in warm Arizona for many years where they served their local church and had many friends. Duane served on the Worthing School board, LaValley Township board, and the Farm Gas board. He also served over the years as trustee, deacon and elder at Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. Duane is proceeded in death by his parents John and Meta, his wife Lois (2018), his son Marlyn (2012), brother Ervin (1993), brother-in-law's William Grajczyk (1991) and Robert Roth (2018) and sister-in-law Yvonne Roth (2007). Grateful for having shared his life are his children: Carla (Alvin) Haan, Chancellor, SD, Glenn DeVries, Graham TX. Grandchildren: Amber (Derek) Heeren, Brandon (Erin) Haan, Trent Haan and fiancé Nikki Schimelphfenig, Autumn Haan, Mandy Weller, Cody DeVries, Mark DeVries, Jacob DeVries and fiancé Krista Losh, Zachary (Bree) DeVries, Remington Watkins, Maddison Watkins, TJ Watkins. He was blessed with 13 great-grandchildren. His sister Ardell (Ken) Penney, Omaha, NE, sisters-in-law: Ardith DeVries Holland, MI, Clarice Grajczyk, Sisseton, SD, Doris Roth, Alexandria, MN, brothers-in-law: Gene (Martha) Roth, New Effington, SD, Larry (Barb) Roth, Blaine, MN as well as other relatives and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers and plants please send memorials to Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) at University of Minnesota (www.givetoruf.org), your favorite charity, or do a random gift/act of kindness in Duane's memory. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Lennox, SD, with burial to follow at the Lennox Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, also at Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 29.
