Duane Otto Raap was born on Nov. 2, 1923 to Otto and Emma (Gerdes) Raap on the family farm in Lynn Township, Day County, S.D. near Pierpont. He was baptized and confirmed at Bergen Lutheran Church near Bristol. He attended country school and also attended Pierpont High School. He worked for his uncle, Harry for a short time before setting up his own farming operation with his father on the family farm. On March 15, 1947, he married Donna Mae Engelson at Aberdeen. After their marriage the couple farmed near Andover for a short time and then moved to the Raap family farm. He married Glenda Bakken on Dec. 17, 1974 at Bristol. After their marriage, the couple lived on the family farm. In 1984, he retired from farming and they moved to Bristol. In the mid 1990's, he moved to Roslyn and on Nov. 14, 2000 he married Marilyn Koele at Webster. They maintained homes in Roslyn and Hull, Iowa until moving to Helping Hand Assisted Living in Brandon in 2002. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Brandon, S.D.; one son, Norman (Sandra) Raap of Roslyn, S.D.; two daughters, Norma (Roland) DeWald of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Barbara Miller of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a son-in-law, Gary Bruhn of Sioux Falls, S.D.; step-children, Lori (Glenn) Myers of Brandon, S.D., Marcia (Jerry) Van Engen of Boise, Idaho and Terry (Sue) Koele of Denver, Colo.; seven grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Shirley Bruhn; a brother, Marvin and a sister, Delores Stratman. Published in the Aberdeen News on 7/9/2005.
