Eggers, son of Arnold and Ruth (Warner) Eggers, was born December 5, 1942, at Tilden, Nebraska. Duane attended country school near the family home north of Tilden and graduated from Tilden High School with the Class of 1960. On July 29, 1962, he was married to Barbara Kay Oppliger at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilden. The couple was blessed with two sons: Mark Duane and Chris Thomas. Duane and Barbara raised their family and farmed north of Tilden until the early 1980's, at which time Duane attended Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska, where he received training in insurance sales. With his new education, Duane began a second career as a licensed life insurance agent, and also became involved in estate planning. Duane was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilden, served on the Tilden Hospital Board, was a member of the board of directors for the Meadow Grove Federal Credit Union, a 4-H leader, co-leader in Tilden's Prairie Days Celebration, served as an usher at church, and served on the Tilden Community Pride Committee. In his earlier career as a farmer and rancher, Duane served as president of the Nebraska Charolais Association, was a member of the National Charolais Association, and coordinated the National Junior Charolais Show and Leadership Conference at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Ruth Eggers; one brother, Kenneth Eggers; one nephew, Rodney; and one infant niece.
