Gilbert Is Stricken Former Resident Dies Monday in Washington Dudley S. Gilbert, 81, former Park county rancher, died Monday afternoon in Vancouver, Wash., where he had resided for the last 17 years. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon in Vancouver. Gilbert was born April 12, 1878 at Peekskill, N.Y., and at the age of five accompanied his parents to Grand Forks, N.D. He moved to the Shields valley of Park county in 1899 when 21 years of age. Gilbert worked for a number of ranchers, including Jerome Cobb of the Yellowstone valley, Harvey and Tregloan of the Shields valley until his marriage May 21, 1902 to Cora Cole when he started ranching for himself. His first wife died in 1933 and Gilbert later married Helen Sasse. During World War II Gilbert moved to Vancouver to accept employment in the Kaiser shipyards and had resided there ever since. In recent years the family home has been at 3501 G Street in Vancouver. Surviving are his widow, Helen; four sons, Alfred (Ford) Gilbert of the Shields route, Herbert Gilbert of Vancouver, Lester Gilbert of Big Timber and Walter Gilbert of Livingston; four daughters, Mrs. H.M. (Mary) Stephenson of Fairfax, Va., Mrs. Joan Crockford of Washougal, Wash., Mrs. Jean Andrews of El Paso, Texas, and Mrs. Kay Gill of Vancouver; four stepdaughters; three sisters, Mrs. James (Sadie) Pepper of Wilsall, Mrs. Roscoe (Edna) Smith of Clyde Park and Mrs. A.C. (Grace)Shelhamer of Livingston; 20 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Judson Gilbert; a sister, Mrs. Jake (Alice) Jones; a brother, Phil Gilbert who died in October, and one son, Irving Gilbert. Ford and Walter Gilbert returned home last week after visiting their father in Vancouver.
