Read More	From the January 25, 1923 edition of the Springview Herald Dwight Blake, older son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore W. Blake, was born in Polk County, Nebraska December 27, 1873, and died on the train a few miles out of Norfolk, Nebraska, January 12, 1923. He was enroute home from Battle Creek, Michigan where he had been in the sanitarium for the past three and one-half months. His death was due to heart trouble from which he had been suffering for about two years. His parents were among the first settlers of Polk County, his father helping to organize the county. His maternal grandfather, Rev. James Query, was the first minister and judge of Polk County. In the latter part of his life Dwight has reminded his people of his grandfather Query, whose devoted Christian life left a strong impression in that pioneer community. After he became of age, Dwight continued in farming and stock raising with his father and brother for a few years, and in stock buying at Shelby, Nebraska, for several years more. Late in 1904, when about 29 years of age, he engaged in the mercantile business at Spencer, Nebraska. In September 1905 he came to Jamison and took up the same business, where he has resided ever since. Dwight's school only that of the pioneer rural school, so that his success in the mercantile business for which he had no previous training or experience, came through his own industry and native ability. December 28, 1912 he was united in marriage to Hazel Cady, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Cady of Jamison, Nebraska. To this union four sons were born, the oldest dying in infancy, the others: Theodore W., Junior, LaVerne Cady and Howard Earl. Dwight's jovial, cheery disposition is as well-known as his name. Even in his last months, when suffering much physical pain and his heart yearning to be in his own home with his loved ones, he cheered and encouraged all those surrounding him. His generous, liberal nature reached everyone, either in material aid or to inspire others to greater giving of themselves or t heir means in the service of humanity. His mother preceded him to the better land two and one-half years ago. All his life his devotion and thought of his mother were beautiful to see. His old soldier father will be saddened all his remaining days by the untimely passing of his first born. The bond between himself and his only brother, Howard, was closer than anyone but themselves know. His three sisters, Mrs. Maude Hoffer of Gresham, Nebraska, Ethel Blake of Osceola and Mrs. Frances Morgan of Washington, D.C., have lost a beloved brother who was a potent influence in their lives. His life companion has sustained a loss in his love and companionship which is well nigh unbearable. His death coming while his three sons are so young is a loss to them which cannot be estimated. Seldom are so many strong, splendid qualities centered in one individual. In these days when vitalized Christian manhood is so needed in the world, his influence on his sons, could he have lived would have been of unlimited possibilities in their lives. In our deep sorrow there is comfort and gratitude that he belonged to us. He lives on in our lives, all of us lifted to a higher plane because of him. We know his spirit is with his Maker. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, January 15, in the M.E. Church at Jamison, Nebraska. Interment was at Elm Grave (Spotted Tail) Cemetery near Jamison, under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge from Burke, South Dakota.
