Description	:	Dwight E. Havens of the firm Havens and Healy General Merchants of Southwest City, Missouri, was born in East Lyme, Connecticut, on November 17, 1849. He was the son of Edmund Fish Havens, also a native of East Lyme, Connecticut, who removed his family to Illinois in 1856. Dwight secured a fair education in Grand Prairie Seminary and Commercial College of Onarga, Illinois. He was the son of Edmund Fish Havens, also a native of East Lyme, Connecticut, who removed his family to Illinois in 1856. Dwight secured a fair education in Grand Prairie Seminary and Commercial College of Onarga, Illinois. After leaving school he engaged in farming in Illinois, but soon after went to Douglass, Butler County, Kansas, with his brother Albert, where he remained engaged in agricultural pursuits until November 1873. He then came to Southwest City, Missouri, and for a time clerked for D.L. Gordon in a general store. On June 5, 1878, Dwight married Laura Smith, daughter of Dr. Benjamin F. Smith. He then engaged in business with his father-in-law but, after about two years, sold to Smith & Seabourne. In June 1883 he established his business in partnership with his brother, Albert Havens. Albert afterwards sold his interest to Charles J. Healy. The firm carried a full line of everything usually found in a general store, and was a successful business. Dwight was also a notary public. Dwight passed away on June 3, 1925, aged 77 years, while at the home of his son Claude, in Olympia, Washington.
