Description	:	Dwight Whitelaw Steele ( Butch to most) , son of Arthur Elton Steele and Ethel Steele was born on October 19th, 1939 in Anthony, Kansas. Raised in Rago, KS, he graduated from Adams High School. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad until he joined the United States Air Force and served as an Air Traffic Control Man. Read More	Dwight Whitelaw Steele ( Butch to most) , son of Arthur Elton Steele and Ethel Steele was born on October 19th, 1939 in Anthony, Kansas. Raised in Rago, KS, he graduated from Adams High School. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad until he joined the United States Air Force and served as an Air Traffic Control Man. During his duty in Cottonwood, Idaho he met his future wife, Ida, at her parents diner "The Nida Cafe". They were married on December 27th, 1963. He later served in Iceland and Panama City. After the service, they settled in Harper, KS. He went to work for Boeing in 1966. In 1970 he went to work as Bar Manager, at The Copper Club; later to partner with Bob Patterson as co-owner. He knew everyone that walked in, and had their drinks waiting. He never met a stranger. If he didn't know you, he made sure he introduced himself, gave you a firm handshake, and said, "Glad to know ya!" He was an extremely hard worker. He made sure the doors to the club were open at 3:30 sharp. You could tell it was open because his car or blue pickup truck was backed right under the Copper Club Supper Club sign. He enjoyed remodeling houses with his brother Ron. He also loved his time at the family cabin on the Anthony Lake. He loved to water ski and hold family dinners. He taught numerous people to ski. He loved to learn and loved to teach. His children always looked forward to Mondays; The Club was closed and they had dinner around the dinner table all together. He and his daughter Lonna both got their pilot's licenses. He liked to fish with the grandkids and tell countless jokes. He laughed all the time. He was a talker and he loved visiting with people and drinking coffee on the porch. He had fun at the casinos and enjoyed talking to others about how those machines were treating them. He and Ida were members of the Calvary Bible Baptist Church where he held the position of treasurer. This isn't shocking as he was a meticulous record keeper. Butch had suffered from Cardiovascular Disease and was recovering from aneurysms and blood clots incurred over the past year and a half. He passed away quickly on the early morning of December 9th, 2014. He joins his mother Ethel and father A. E. and brother Lee Steele. He will be deeply and sincerely missed by his wife Ida Steele of Harper, KS, who loved him dearly and took excellent vigilant, selfless care of him after his illness. He is also survived by his daughter and her family of Ventura, CA; Lonna David Gregory, and their kids Anna, Matthew, Claren, Haven, and Sarah. His daughter and her family of Leawood, KS; Athena and Jonny Wainscott, and their kids Harper, Henry, and Finley. His siblings Don Steele and wife Fran, Della Patterson, Mary Gwenn Taylor and her husband Aaron, Dee Dee Braden, and Ron Steele and wife LuAnn. Also by his cousin John Carothers and wife Mary Lou. He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 22, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Prairie Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Harper. Friends & Family are invited to the Harper Senior Center for dinner and visiting following services. Memorials may be left in Butch's name to the Harper Mission Mart or to Harper Helping Hands and sent in care of the funeral home. Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, December 11 and Friday, December 12th. Arrangements are by Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 613 W. 14th, Harper, KS 67058
