The funeral service will be conducted on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Oakmont Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park. Mrs. Cayton, daughter of the late Emma Allen and Henry Cates, was a lifelong resident of Pitt County. She was a 1957 graduate of Chicod High School where she earned all-state honors in basketball. During her high school years, Faye enjoyed working at Hollowell's Drug Store where she met the love of her life, Henry Cayton. Following graduation, she went to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. Upon Henry's completion of service in the United States Air Force, Faye and Henry were married and they made their home in Greenville. In 1960, Faye began a career as a medical practice manager with Quadrangle Internal Medicine and completed her career with 42 years of service, retiring in 2002 from Physician's East in Farmville. Mrs. Cayton was a member of Oakmont Baptist Church where she served in the nursery and was one of the founding members of the Pathfinder's Sunday School class. Mrs. Cayton will be best remembered for her loving and nurturing manner. She was quite passionate in her work often taking on the role of a patient advocate. In her personal life, Mrs. Cayton greatly enjoyed her children and grandchildren and was fondly known as "Granny." Gathering with family and friends was a favorite pastime. She enjoyed cooking and serving others as well as opening her home to those in need. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cayton was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jordan; and five brothers, Elbert, Carlton, Earl, L.H., and Luther Cates. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Henry Wade Cayton Sr.; daughter, Tammy Cayton Jones and husband, Joel, of Greenville; son, Chip Cayton and wife, Jackie, of Winterville; grandchildren, Lauren Jones Boucher and husband, Paul, of Winterville, Tanner Jones of Greenville, Jordan and Olivia Cayton of Winterville; sister, Margie Case of Greenville; a host of nieces and nephews and special family friends, Janet Smith, Catie Fosdick and David Vaughn. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times at her home.
