Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, on Wednesday, November 1 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a rosary at 6:45 PM followed by a vigil service at 7:00 PM. Visitation resumes one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Thursday. Earl was born May 24, 1923 in Hartington, Nebraska to Henry and Agnes (Leader) Morman. The family moved to South Dakota and settled in the Volin area. After graduating from Volin High School, Earl served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany. After returning home in 1946, Earl married Verena Welchert in 1947 and initially settled in Vermillion and moved to Utica before beginning their own farming, cattle and registered quarter horse operation on the farm in the Yankton Lewis and Clark Lake area. They were married for almost sixty years until Verena's death in 2007. An avid outdoorsman and hunter, Earl was also well-known around Yankton for his skill at the pool table and at the pinochle table as well. He was instrumental in helping the Yankton Senior Center establish its pool room, and later the popular Thursday 'ladies league' and starting Yankton area pool tournaments. Earl had many valuable insights, advice and knowledge for the challenges and opportunities at hand which he freely offered and shared with family and friends. Earl is survived by his four children: Barbara (Robert) Clarke of Quincy, MA, Linda (Keith) Wing of Yankton, Donald (Mary) Morman of Missoula, MT and David (Shirley) Morman of Omaha, NE; and by his loving companion and close friend of recent years, Joanne Bartlett; eight grandchildren: Christen (Rich) Sardano, Scott Wing, Tim (Sara) Morman, Dan (Christy) Morman, Joe and Christine Morman, Jennifer (Dave) Moss and LeAnne (Dan) Hoffman; five great-grandchildren, Sydney and Leena Sardano, Joanna Morman and Carter and Kaitlynn Moss; his sister, Ethel Sorensen of Irene, SD; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed by every one of them. Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Verena; his parents, Henry and Agnes Morman; and brothers, Howard, Ralph and Dale.
