Description	:	ALBANY -- Earl Goodin, 69, of State Street, Albany, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at his residence, following a brief illness. Born April 8, 1932, in Athens County, he was the son of the late Arthur and Lola Faye Ruse Goodin. He was a retired captain of the Athens Fire Department, where he served for 30 years. Read More	ALBANY -- Earl Goodin, 69, of State Street, Albany, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at his residence, following a brief illness. Born April 8, 1932, in Athens County, he was the son of the late Arthur and Lola Faye Ruse Goodin. He was a retired captain of the Athens Fire Department, where he served for 30 years. He had taught fire schools all over Southeastern Ohio since the early 1960s. In 1979, he attended Ohio State Fire School and became a certified instructor, and he taught basic and advanced firefighting in area departments. He was past president and honorary life member of the Athens County Firefighters Association, a life member and honorary dean of the Hocking Valley Regional Fire School. He was a self-employed painter and worked at remodeling in the Athens area for more than 40 years. At the time of his death, he was a member of Albany Village Council and also had served as village administrator. He also was an avid garden tractor puller. He is survived by his wife, Martha Ann Bobo Goodin; three sons, William (Cathy) of Glen Ridge, N.J., Robert (Rita) of Albany and Richard (Vickie) of Circleville; a daughter, Debra (James) Turner of Albany; seven grandchildren, Melissa Turner of Albany, Michael and Kaitlin Goodin of Circleville, Scott Lee, Kris, Nick and Krista Farley; a special friend who was like a brother, Harold (Mary) Powers of Richmond, Va.; a sister-in-law, Bessie Goodin of Albany; nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Mary Bobo. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer and Pearl Goodin; a sister, Dorothy Goodin; and a nephew, John Goodin. Services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, Albany, with Pastor John Elswick officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Appalachian Community Hospice, 30 Herrold St., Athens, 45701.
