He was born Jan. 14, 1924, in Wabash, Indiana to Earl Bryan and Ella (Carey) Ravenscroft. He married Shirley Lundquist in Indianapolis, on Dec. 26, 1946. Earl was a 1942 graduate of Wabash High School and attended Purdue University in West Lafayette. He was born Jan. 14, 1924, in Wabash, Indiana to Earl Bryan and Ella (Carey) Ravenscroft. He married Shirley Lundquist in Indianapolis, on Dec. 26, 1946. Earl was a 1942 graduate of Wabash High School and attended Purdue University in West Lafayette. He served three years in the 3rd Infantry Division of the US Army during World War II, participating in five beach heads and two other campaigns. He received a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and a Purple Heart for his service. He also served 20 years in the National Guard, retiring as captain. In his early adulthood, Earl enjoyed working with his father in the family business of sign design (neon and sign lettering). Earl served for 13 years as an Indiana Conservation Officer, served as a city councilman for Wabash, Head of Civil Defense, Wabash County, and later founded Ravenscroft Insurance Agency from which he retired in 1989. He also volunteered as a Judo instructor with Wabash Community Service for 20 years and earned a black belt. After retiring, Earl enjoyed fishing, reading, spending time with family, and traveling with his wife Shirley. They traveled together to Europe and 49 of the 50 states. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ravenscroft; three children, Tim (Jocelyn) Ravenscroft, Jeff (Chris) Ravenscroft, Suzie (Dave) Metz, all of Wabash; five grandchildren, Mike (Kara) Ravenscroft of Wabash, Jon Ravenscroft of Chicago, Megan (Jerry) Vandeveer of Fort Wayne, Mindy Metz and Stevie Metz, both of Wabash; brother-in-law, Robert (Margaret) Lundquist Sr. of Wabash. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dick Ravenscroft, his sister, Mary Ellen Baldree, his granddaughter, Nicole Ravenscroft, and his sister-in-law, Charlene "Chuckie" Carlton. Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave. Wabash on Thursday, Jan. 14, at 10:30 a.m. with David Phillips and Rich Davis officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. David Phillips and Rich Davis officiated. Mr. Ravenscroft's son, Tim Ravenscroft, gave the eulogy. Special memories were shared by families and friends. Musician was Trula Cramer. Pallbearers were Stevie Metz, Dave Metz, Gerald Vandeveer II, Jeff Ravenscroft, Mike Ravenscroft, Jon M. Ravenscroft, Keith Hubred and Paul Hipsher. Honorary pallbearers were Sundy Scura, Ted Lewis, Ray Bauer - all World War II veterans. Military graveside services were presented by a joint honor guard composed of Wabash VFW Post No.286, the American Legion Post No.15 and the Fort Wayne Military Honors Team. Spc. Copeland and Spc. Sliger folded the flag and Sliger presented the flag to the family. Max Reed played taps. #Burial was in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.
