He passed away on Oct. 8 at Iowa City at the age of 47 years. Earl had worked for the Iowa State Highway Department and also was employed as a carpenter. He had lived in the Blairstown area most of his life. On March 20, 1975 he was united in marriage to Vernita Nowotny. They had made their home in the Victor area. Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by his brother, Merlin William Gordon, and his step-mother Esther Gordon. Surviving him is his wife, Vernita; his sons, Larry and Garry of Blairstown; his step-sons, Randy and Marty Nowotny; his daughters, Marlyn Dellamuth of Blairstown, and Judy Maschmann of Millersburg, his brothers, William of LaCrescent, IA., Laughn of Lowton, OK., Garry of Harpers Ferry, IA., and Donald Love of Germany; his sisters, Belva (Jane) Andrews of Chicago; Evelyn Burk of Waterloo, Lynn Miners of Caledonia, MN., Ruby Gordon of New Albin, IA., Grace Welland Orf of LaCrescent, MN., Peggy Liljegren of Racine, WI., and Edwina Steel of New Albin; his parents William Gordon and Elaine Childres; four grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. A prayer service was held Friday evening at 7:30 at the Halvorson Funeral home, Blairstown. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Victor Methodist Church with Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer officiating at 10:30 a.m. Organist, Mrs. Colleen Zavodsky, accompanied soloist, Mrs. Robert Dentel as she sang, "Abide with Me." Casketbearers were Bert Garwook, Paul Mittan, Elmer Eichorn, William Pickart, Rick Voss. and Russell Kim with burial in the IOOF cemetery at Victor.
