Burial will follow at Green Mound Cemetery, Leola. Earl died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at his home. Earl James Rott was born on Nov. 27, 1936, at Ashley, N.D., to Benjamin and Lillian (Joachim) Rott. He grew up and attended school in Leola. He graduated from Leola High School with the class of 1955. He then graduated from Northern State College. On Oct. 14, 1966, he married Sylvia Weigel. They made their home on a farm near Leola, where he was living at the time of his death. Earl was a member of the United Methodist Church, Leola. He was a past board member of the Federal Land Bank and Leola School Board. He was a past member of Better Leola Club, Leola Lions Club and the Leola Saddle Club. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and going to Storybook Land. He loved reading, history and traveling. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Sylvia Rott of Leola; six children, Shawna (Brian) King of Omaha, Neb., Kalie (Lori) Rott of Piperville, Pa., stationed at Afghanistan, Tarri (Alisa) Rott of Omaha, Neb., Earl “Jamie” Rott Jr. of Denver, Colo., Travis Rott of Fort Carson, Colo., ReEtta Rott and her fiance Chris Sieh of Leola; eight grandchildren, Briton, Logan, Brianna, Sydney and Macy Rott, Ben, Max and Elle King; mother, Lillian Rott of Leola; three sisters, Sylvia Arioso of Leola, Cynthia Schock of Aberdeen and Monica (Roy) Meyer of Leola. Earl is preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Rott. Casketbearers will be Kalie Rott, Tarri Rott, Earl “Jamie” Rott, Travis Rott, Brian King and Chris Sieh.
