Fenton and Lou Emma (Bird) Staley Fenton was born July 7th, 1899, north of Plano in Appanoose County. Passed away October 8th, 1985 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital where he was a patient since March 1984. He was united in marriage to Exie Vera Hammond on January 14th 1922. To this union two sons were born, Dwight of rural Mystic and Jerald of rural Melrose. He was saved and baptized at the age of 12 and a member of the Brushy Chariton River Baptist Church. Earl was a 59 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Walnut Loge No. 588 at Mystic, Iowa and also a member of the Eastern Star. He was a farmer and spent all his life in Appanoose and Lucas County. He retired and moved to Centerville in 1981. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers, and survived by his wife Exie, and two sons; Dwight and wife Ethel, and Jerald and wife Wanda. Six grandchildren, Stephen Fenton and wife Marcia of Chariton, Connie and husband Rick McKinley of R rural Russell, Carol and husband Eric Ziel of Boone, Patty Fenton of Centerville, Sandra and Husband Ronnie Marshall of Ottumwa, Earl Robert Fenton of Lewisville, Texas. Six great grandchildren, Eric and Jason Fenton, Adam and Abram Marshall, Erica Ziel, Susan McKinley. One brother-in-law Donald Hammond and wife Mabel of Ottumwa, one sister-in-law Mabel G. Hammond of Ottumwa. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends and neighbors. Masonic services were held Wednesday evening October 9th at 7:30 p.m. at Duley Funeral Home, conducted by Bill Vinzant. Songs were "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art" sung by Rev. Phil Griffith. Words of comfort were spoken by Pastor Robert Young. Casket bears were John Young, Jim Reynolds, Bill Vinzant, Ora Rinehart, Donald Besco and Victor Phippen. Final resting place Brushy Cemetery north of Plano.
