Martin, son of the late Frank and Hattie Martin, was born in Sidney, Iowa on October 25, 1893, and departed this life in the Valley Community Hospital in Santa Maria, California, on January 8, 1962. Martin, son of the late Frank and Hattie Martin, was born in Sidney, Iowa on October 25, 1893, and departed this life in the Valley Community Hospital in Santa Maria, California, on January 8, 1962. He reached the age of 68 years, two months and 14 days. At the time of his death, he was visiting his daughter, Vina and his son, Wallace and their families at Santa Maria, California. He suffered a heart attack on December 28, and was taken to the Valley Community Hospital and later was released, going to the home of his daughter, where he suffered his fourth attack on January 8th, which was fatal. On December 18, 1920, he was united in marriage to Valeria Mae Bobbitt. They lived in and around Elgin until 1935 when they moved to Bartlett, where he lived the remainder of his life. To this union were born 5 children two sons and three daughters, all of whom with their families, survive. They are: Mrs. Johnny (Vivian) Sturek of Bartlett; Robert of Golden, Colorado; Wallace and Mrs' Mrs. Kenneth (Vina) Taylor. both of Santa Maria, California; and Mrs. Dale (Jo Ann Dallegge of Chambers. Other survivors are 13 grandchildren; 4 brothers, Ernest of Castle Rock, Colo; Orval of Bartlett; Leo of Neligh; and Ross of Elgin, and a host of relatives and friends. The deceased was a loving and devoted father and grandfather, whose every thought was for the welfare of his family He was preceeded in death by his wife, who passed away on October 14, 1959 and both parents, when his mother passed away on November 19, 1961. His early life was spent on a farm at Sidney, Iowa until 1919 when his parents moved to a farm west of Elgin. In 1917 he volunteered for military service and remained a member of the military service for 41 years, until his death. He belonged to the 29th Balloon Company attached to the 35th division in France. Coming home from the service to his country, he married and worked at various occupations until he was elected County Judge of Wheeler county in 1951. He served a seven year term at which time he resigned because of ill health. He was a member of the Park Congregational church and a member of the Elgin Masonic Lodge. Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church in Bartlett at 2:00 PM Saturdy, Jan. 13th. Rev. C. E. Boese officiated. Mrs. Lorraine Huffman was soloist accompanied gy Mrs. Shirley Genrich. Bobbitt-Martin Miss Mae Bobbitt and Mr. Earl Martin were united in marriage Saturday, December 20, 1920 at Neligh, Nebraska, Rev. Roberts officiating. The bride is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Bobbitt, of Elgin and is an estimable young lady. She has resided here all her life. She graduated from the Elgin High School in 1919 and has since been a saleslady in Wolfe and Bros. general merchandise store. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Martin, of Clay Ridge. He has resided in that neighborhood for the past thirteen years except the time he was in the army. As soon as the war was declared, he offered himself for service and was accepted after a due course of training in a camp in this country. He was sent to France and served until the end of the war. He is now engaged in farming and is making a success of the same. Mr. and Mrs. Martin have begun housekeeping on the Martin farm, twelve miles west of Elgin. The Review together with their friends wish them a long, happy and prosperous wedded life.
