He was an Army veteran of World War II serving as a staff sergeant with the 5th Army in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He served from June 12, 1942, to Oct. 14, 1945. He retired in 1979 as a process engineer from the Lima Sohio Refinery, after 30 years. He was a lifelong resident of Lima, with a summer home at Indian Lake. He and his wife moved into Otterbein Care Center in April 2008. He enjoyed boating, his golden retrievers Bart and Tyler and playing Bridge. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Cridersville. Services are at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Cridersville, with Revs. James Couser and Dr. Jeffrey Kimpel, officiating.
