Description	:	On January 20, 2014, our father, brother, husband, grandfather and friend Earl entered into eternal rest, leaving behind a life among us filled with happiness, friendship and service to those of Luray who knew him best. Read More	On January 20, 2014, our father, brother, husband, grandfather and friend Earl entered into eternal rest, leaving behind a life among us filled with happiness, friendship and service to those of Luray who knew him best. Earl was born on May 12, 1941, the son of James F. and Maude E. Embrey of Luray. He attended Luray High School as part of the Class of 1960, where he enjoyed athletics as the fullback on the football team and catcher for the baseball team. He worked in the local community before serving in the United States Army as a military policeman from 1963-1964, afterwards returning to the local community where he worked for Blue Bell Inc. and enjoyed playing in the Luray Industrial Softball League and the Valley League, as well as hunting and fishing with friends and family. Earl continued a life of service to the community as a law enforcement officer with the Luray Police Department and Deputy Sheriff for the Page County Sheriff's Department, serving for over 22 years until his retirement in 2002. In retirement, Earl continued to enjoy hunting throughout the area in and around Punkin' Hill, and his passion for bass fishing on the Shenandoah River and Lake Anna. On any given day, he enjoyed watching westerns and Nationals baseball while caring for his four-legged friends, Jake and Lexi, as well as enriching the lives of his family and friends through his sense of humor and good friendship. As Earl departs us, he leaves our world a better place for us all in having known him for the past 72 years. Earl is survived by his wife, Diana; son Edward Wayne and wife Sherri; and granddaughter Olivia. Earl is also survived by his brother, James L. Embrey and his wife, Stella; nephew James H. Embrey; and nieces Keeley J. Gadd and Teddi J. Embrey. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at the Bradley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Beahm's Chapel Cemetery in Luray. The Luray VFW will provide military honors for the service. The family was to receive friends at funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22. The family welcomes flowers, or contributions on Earl's behalf to the Luray Volunteer Fire Department and/or the Luray Volunteer Rescue Squad.
