He was born on March 7, 1922, in Palmyra, the son of Frank and Ethel Randall. He attended Palmyra schools and was drafted into the Army on Jan. 28, 1943. He was stationed in Nebraska and later overseas in Guam and helped to construct barracks and runways while serving his country. Randall, 91, formerly of Pittsfield, passed away Feb. 12, 2014, at Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield. He was born on March 7, 1922, in Palmyra, the son of Frank and Ethel Randall. He attended Palmyra schools and was drafted into the Army on Jan. 28, 1943. He was stationed in Nebraska and later overseas in Guam and helped to construct barracks and runways while serving his country. He was discharged with the rank of private first class on Feb. 23, 1946, and returned home to Maine. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Merrithew, of Pittsfield, on Aug. 29, 1959, and they celebrated their 52nd anniversary in 2011. They were the perfect couple and worked many years as hand sewers in Maine shoe factories. Together they enjoyed life by bowling, hunting, camping, fishing, playing cards and snowmobiling. As we all know, fishing was Earle's favorite hobby. Recently he taught his nephew, Frankie, the art and joy of fishing and this gave both men much happiness. Because Earle and Betty never had children of their own, Betty's extended family became their "kids." Uncle Earle was the patriarch of the family. He proudly attended all the Bragdon family reunions every summer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pittsfield and a proud member of the American Legion in Newport. He attended the weekly Seniors Group which was held at the Elks Club in Pittsfield. Earle is survived and lovingly remembered by his many relatives, his wife's family who claimed him as their own, and many friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty, of 52 years, who passed away on Jan. 30, 2012; his parents; and all of his siblings, Leo, Leland, Colman, Beulah, Opal, Frank and his beloved twin, Merle Cecil, who passed away Feb. 14, 1942. A spring committal with military honors will be held at Village Cemetery in Pittsfield. (Morning Sentinel 2/14/2014)
