Burial at Victor Memorial Cemetery. Earlene Elizabeth Heitman was born on May 16, 1933, the daughter of Earl and Edna (Weidemeier) Heitman on their family farm near Williamsburg, Iowa. She attended country school and Ladora High School. On January 12, 1952, she married Laverne Clark Jahlas, at St. John's Lutheran Church. The couple lived near Deep River and moved to Victor in 1961, while raising their six children. Earlene held a strong faith in God, she was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church where she assisted in alter duties, Ladies Aide, Fellowship Club, and cleaning. Earlene loved her family and baking. She was able to share her food with many while she worked as a cook for the Victoria Inn, Star Inn, Dickies, and the Big G. She enjoyed shopping, crafting, and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. Surviving are five children, Vickie (Bill) Roberts of Victor, Kevin (LuAnn) Jahlas of Brooklyn, Kim (Chris) Jahlas of Victor, Rick (Renee) Jahlas of Belle Plaine, and Brad (Connie) Jahlas of Victor; a son-in-law, Dan Scandridge of Hartwick; one sister, Karen (Bill) Westerdale; 12 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Earlene was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Edna; step-father, Arthur Cheney; husband, LaVerne; daughter, Connie Scandridge; brother, Larry Cheney; and two grandsons, Joshua and Kyle.
