Abbott and Mary Jane McCurdy Earnest's family, who homesteaded in Loup County, moved briefly to Broken Bow, where he Earnest was born. Read More	Earnest Abbott Earnest J Abbott was born in Broken Bow, Nebraska , on August 2, 1907. He passed away June 3, 1983. Earnest was the youngest child of George W. Abbott and Mary Jane McCurdy Earnest's family, who homesteaded in Loup County, moved briefly to Broken Bow, where he Earnest was born. Less than a year later they returned to their ranch near the Abbott bridge. When Earnest was seven years old, his mother passed away. This drew Earnest and His dad together into a close relationship that Earnest later always fondly referred to as the "baching years" with his father. One special thing that Earnest's dad did was take him out West to Wyoming in 1916, a trip that was almost unheard of in that day. The new Mitchell car that Earnest's dad had at the time thought the trip was unheard of too, because it had to be shipped back by railroad to Dunning, where they pulled it to the Abbott ranch with a team of horses. Earnest attended grade school at Liberty School near his home, and then rode a horse to Almeria where he attended the ninth grade. After ninth grade, Earnest worked at several jobs in Nebraska and Kansas, as well as on the home place with his father. On April 29, 1933, Earnest was married to Hilda Marie Jarvis They made their home near his parent's homestead, and later moved to the George Abbott ranch. To Earnest and Hilda were born three children, Larry Abbott, of " Ankeny", Iowa , a daughter who died in infancy, and Annabelle Abbott, who is Mrs Floyd Likins, from Omaha. J Earnest thoroughly enjoyed life. He loved his ranch. He loved to fly, something he started to do about 25 years ago. Earnest's cub was often seen in the Sandhills skies. Earnest loved his hobbies. He took up; amateur radio in the 1960's, and, was a member of the Central Nebraska Amateur Radio Club. In 1972, Earnest began collecting wire He accumulated over 800 pieces. Earnest was a member, and former president, of the Nebraska Barbwire Association, as well as five other barbwire state organizations. Earnest received many rewards for his barbwire displays. And, Earnest loved to fish. Ice fishing was his favorite. But most of all, Earnest loved his friends, with whom he had many special times. Earnest was also involved in the community and in his church. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, and the Nebraska Cattlemen Association. Earnest was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church, where he was actively involved in building the church which we are in today, In 1966, on Father's Day, Earnest accepted Christ as his personal Savior He was baptized in 1970. On April 20, 1975, Earnest was joined in marriage to Glenna M. Spanel, of rural Long Pine, Nebraska . Earnest was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Jane Abbott, an infant daughter, a brother Walter, sister Elsie Abbott Harden , and a sister Nellie Abbott. Earnest is survived by his wife Glenna, his son Larry and Larry's wife Carolyn, his daughter Annabelle and her husband Floyd, his stepchildren Bill and George Spanel and their wives Karen and Lori , his seven stepgrandchildren- Crystal, Shane, Corenne, Dustin, Jodi, T.J. , and Jamie, two nephews-Charlie Harden and George William Abbott, nieces- Thelma Carrington and Doris Barthelmess, many cousins, and a host of friends. Services were held in Pleasant Valley Church, east of Brewster, Neb Rev. David Dunn and Pastor Ron Klassen were in charge. Music was by Marilyn Fox. The Honorary Pallbearers were Ora Copp, Art Coleman , L. D Dunbar, John Emerson , and Don Anderson Acting pallbearers were Norman McCarthy, Bill Spanel, George Spanel, Allan Jarvis, Don Rejda, and Ken Ferguson. Interment was near Earnest home at the Moulton Cemetary in Loup County. Arrangements were by Rhoads Mortuary of Sargent, Nebr.
