Obituary from the Lancaster Gazette dated 27 Mar 1902, page 8 Obituary Wednesday morning as the hands of the dial pointed the hour of four a pall of gloom fell upon the vicinity of Hamburg, when the sad news was proclaimed that the spirit of Ernest Pearl Cruit, the youngest son of Mary E. Bowers, had taken its fight to the world beyond after traveling in the vale of tears for only 20 years. He leaves behind to mourn his loss, a mother, brother and sister, and many friends. His father preceded him on the 10th of May 1887. Today we mourn his loss, but we mourn not as they who have not hope of reunion, for the day cometh when we shall clasp glad hands on a brighter shore. Death is ever and anon plucking from our midst. He erects His batteries right over against our homes and fires into our midst and some one must necessarily fall the victim to his prey. And thus it had been his lot. But we know not who will be the next for in the midst of life, we are in death and today we enjoy health, tomorrow may find us in death's cold embrace. Therefore we should at all times and places be prepared to meet our God. The funeral took place at the Mt. Zion church Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, where a large crowd assembled to pay their last tribute of respect. XXX
