Description	:	Vada was born in West Branch, Michigan, the third child of four to William 'Bill' Henry Cross and Edna Phoebe Bartram. The fourth child was her half brother from her father's second wife Cora Mae (Margaret) Spliethof. He is still living in 2021. When Vada was about 7 yrs old her family moved to Snohomish, Washington because her brother Robert James (Pete) had asthma really bad. Her grandparents were already living there. There she graduated from the 8th grade in 1938 at age 15. Soon after they moved to Oregon around Selma. There she graduated from the 8th grade in 1938 at age 15. Soon after they moved to Oregon around Selma. This is where she met her husband to be, Faye Malcolm 'Mal' Kosak (Williams). His biological father was Floyd Earl Williams, who was his mothers' partner (Laura Hazel Coulson) when he was born out of wedlock in Linneus, Missouri. Faye found out he was a Williams when he was in the Army and ordered his birth certificate. I guess he decided to keep Kosak. Because all of his kids grew up as Kosaks not knowing any different. At age 19 Vada joined the U.S. Civilian Defense Council in Josephine County, Oregon, Division Canteen Corp, Air Raid Ward during WWII. In Mom's words, she WORKED THE LOOK-OUT WATCHING FOR ENEMY PLANES. Her mother Edna Phoebe Bartram-Cross had also joined in July of 1943 one year prior to her early death at age 50. Vada and Faye Malcolm Kosak were married on 25 Oct 1942 in Reno, Nevada. Faye enlisted 19 Feb 1943. He was stationed in Palm Beach, Florida, at the Breaker Hotel that was turned into a hospital during WWII. He was a medic in the Army. Also spent sometime in Vancouver, Washington. His new step-father Charles Reese was in the Army at the same time. So Vada and Hazel (her mother-in-law) lived together for sometime in Oregon while the men were serving in the military. Their first 3 children were born in Oregon. Faye was released from the military 12 Feb 1946. In 1949 the family moved to Northern California to a place was called Carrier Gulch where he had a platinum mine that he named The Lucky Day Mine. He had it for several years. That was only for a short time, that's when their fourth child was born in June of 1949. By 1950 they were living in Peanut, California when their fifth child and only son was born. There Vada joined the Peanut Women's Club, also working as a cook at Irene's Café in Hayfork. Hayfork was seven miles from Peanut. In Peanut they lived in a few different places, the last one was old Post Office. There was a logging mill there and Faye drove logging truck and worked on his mine. Around 1953 Fay purchased a home in Hayfork, so the family moved again. That is where the children grew up. Faye later worked for the Trinity County Road Department. In around 1965 Malcolm built his own mechanic shop called Mal's Auto and Truck Repair. Vada was the bookkeeper and mechanic helper. This was until Malcolm's head injury and it changed their lives forever. Then Faye Malcolm had a brain injury in 1987and was in convalescent hospital in Redding until his death in 1989. So Vada moved to Redding CA. She lived there until her death in 2003, of a heart attack. This was written by Vada's youngest daughter.
