Bunce, 71, of Hawarden, well known throughout the Sioux Valley as a horse trainer, died Tuesday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Behrens, in Sioux City. Bunce, 71, of Hawarden Dies At Home of Daughter in Sioux City E. J. Bunce, 71, of Hawarden, well known throughout the Sioux Valley as a horse trainer, died Tuesday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Behrens, in Sioux City. Mr. Bunce suffered a severe heart attack last summer and since then had not been feeling well. About two weeks ago he went to Sioux City to be with his children. Mr. Bunce was born September 28, 1875, at Calumet, Iowa. He married Lily Nield August 29, 1899, at Winchester, Va, where they lived until 1918 when the family moved to Sioux City. About 10 years ago Mr. Bunce was employed by Ray Dale and he and his wife lived at Chatsworth. His wife died February 7, 1940. Mr. Bunce later married Mrs. Elizabeth Cain of Hawarden and they made their home here. She died January 10, 1945, from the effects of a broken hip which she suffered when she fell on an icy walk. Mr. Bunce continued to make his home here but sent some time with his children in Sioux City. He was a charter member of the Hawarden Saddle Club. He was a lover of horses. He trained many horses in the Hawarden vicinity during his residence here. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Sioux City. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Behrens, Mrs. M. W. Bower and Mrs. O.O. Frazee of Sioux City; a son, Earl S. Bunce of Sioux City, 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two brothers, Dr. Elmer Bunce of Los Angeles, Calif., and Clarence Buce of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. Mina Scott of Lucedale, Miss.
