Read More	Spencer Reporter February 21, 1923 Ebenezer Deming Chamberlain Dead Passed Away at Home in Meadow Township Saturday Came to Clay County in 1870 Ebenezer Deming Chamberlain, one of the most active and influential citizens ever residing in the county passed away at his home in Meadow township at ten o'clock on Saturday evening, Feb. 17, after an illness which lasted ten days. He was first taken with the grippe and bronchitis set in which was the immediate cause of his death. Funeral services were, conducted this Wednesday afternoon by Rev. Hammerle at one-thirty o'clock at the Chamberlain residence and at two o'clock at the Methodist church in Langdon. Interment was made in Fairview cemetery in Meadow township where although Mr. Chamberlain was the first of his family to pass away, he had many years ago purchased the first lot sold in the cemetery. Ebenezer Deming Chamberlain, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Chamberlain was born in Bath, New Hampshire, on March 2, 1843. He grew to young manhood at that place and at the age of twenty-one years on April 7, 1864, enlisted in the first regiment Company H of the New Hampshire heavy artillery where he served and participated in many of the civil war battles. He was honorably discharged from the army on February 22, 1866. On February 10, 1868, he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Paige and to this union two sons, Clarence Chamberlain and Ralph Chamberlian and one daughter were born. The sons are now residing in Meadow township. Ralph now farms his father's land and Clarence has the adjoining section. The daughter is now Mrs. Frank Leonard of Wells River, Vermont. She was unable to be present at the funeral services on account of her own illness and the illness of her husband. On November 16, 1870, Mr. and Mrs. Chamberlain came to Clay county and took a homestead in Meadow township. For many years Mr. Chamberlain devoted his time to farming and although he lived on the homestead farm until death took him away, he gave up his farm work and put it all in the hands of his son several years ago. For the past thirty-nine years he had held the position of township clerk and was the president of the Farmers Savings Bank at Langdon at the time of his death. He was connected with the Mutual Benefit Insurance company here at Spencer and was actively interested in any welfare work which was promoted in the county during his life. He was a very highly respected man and a faithful member and worker in the Methodist church at Landgon. Besides his wife and children he is survived by twelve grandchildren and one brother, D.L. Chamberlain, of Carlisle, Massachusetts, and two sisters, Mrs. Laura Davis of Carlisle, Massachusetts, and Mrs. Eliza Parker of Whitefield, New Hampshire.
