Description	:	Ebenezer was the son of Lt Ebenezer Shepard and Jane McCordy of Dedham, Mass. and New London, New Hampshire. He was baptized in Dedham on 12 July 1767, shortly after his birth. He was married on 8 January 1793 to Sally Burpee, the daughter of Lt. Thomas Burpee and Joanna Foster. According to the veteran's marker placed at his grave, Ebenezer was a private, Continental Line, Revolutionary War. He was married on 8 January 1793 to Sally Burpee, the daughter of Lt. Thomas Burpee and Joanna Foster. According to the veteran's marker placed at his grave, Ebenezer was a private, Continental Line, Revolutionary War. If this is indeed the case, then he would have been about 16 years old when the war ended. While his having served appears improbable, it remains possible. Since his father, who has the same name, did serve in the Continental Line during the war, it is also possible that the military record for his father was used to obtain a veteran's marker for Ebenezer Jr. The biographical account of Ebenezer, Jr. in the History of New London, New Hampshire does not mention any military service. It appears most likely that he did not serve, because of his age, and that the veteran's marker was placed in error. Ebenezer, Jr. was of Brookfield, Vermont, when married in 1793. The family appears on the 1800 census in New London, NH with what appear to be three sons and two daughters. Ebenezer Shepard, yeoman, made his will 12 Aug 1844; it was proved 22 Jan 1850. Ebenezer and Sally had eleven children.
