Military rites conducted by the VFW Post 1776. Troupe was born Feb. 15, 1874 at Charles City, Iowa, son of George and Susie Troupe. He came to De Smet with his parents at the age of eight. Military rites conducted by the VFW Post 1776. Troupe was born Feb. 15, 1874 at Charles City, Iowa, son of George and Susie Troupe. He came to De Smet with his parents at the age of eight. He joined the Spanish American War in March 1898 and the following year attained the rank of Sergeant. He served in 13 battles. In later years he served as senior vice commander of the South Dakota group of the Grand Army of the Republic. He was married to Anna Buchhoolz at Gettysburg Episcopal Church. April 28, 1908. They moved to Huron a month later where he was employed by the C. and N. W. as fireman and later as engineer. Because of health reasons he retired in 1922. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Chruch, Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers, Spanish War Veterans and VFW. Survivors include his widow, Anna; two daughters, Evelyn, Mrs. Richard Adebar, Huron; Frances, Mrs. Reuel Turner, Ingelwood, Calif.; one granddaughter; two great gradchildren; one brother, Byron Troupe, Tacoma, Wash.
